Describe your basic workout regimen.
I attend Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping classes in Ankeny. This involves three days of cardio-kickboxing and three days of resistance-band training per week.
How have you changed that regimen over the years?
I’ve tried to incorporate new exercises – bike riding, Wii Fit — and I recently started running two days a week.
Do you work out with a partner or a group or alone? Why?
I met and became friends with someone when I started at Farrell’s in 2006. We continue to attend the same classes, which makes us both accountable to show up!
What motivates you to stay in shape?
I am motivated to exercise to feel better, to relieve stress and to challenge myself physically. Most important, I am motivated to be a role model for my two daughters. I want to teach them the importance of exercising and eating right.
What are the keys to your diet?
I eat a lot of fresh fruits and veggies, lean meats, limit my sweets and drink plenty of water.
What advice would you give to someone just starting on a workout program?
The key is to pick an exercise you enjoy and stick with it.
Any fitness goals you’re working toward?
In the near future I am preparing to run a couple of 5K races, and in the long term my goal is to run the Dam to Dam race in 2010.
