The giant East Village boutique has dual sales mission

There’s a pink convertible sitting in the front of the East Village’s newest boutique.

And the car isn’t the only thing in the 5,500-square-foot Village Boutique that will catch shoppers’ eyes. The store, which opened Nov. 3, is filled with a sparkling chandelier, a pink brick walkway and brightly colored women’s clothing and accessories.

Myra Lynn Hansen, the shop’s owner and an interior designer for almost 20 years, also devoted half the store to home decor. Customers can find lamps, artwork and smaller furniture pieces made especially for downtown condominiums and apartments. She said she wanted to offer unique items to young professionals at reasonable prices.

“I like to offer things that have that wow factor,” she said. “Things that are out of the ordinary and that you can’t find elsewhere.”

Hansen is also offering her interior design expertise. She and a second designer have set up space in the back of the boutique for appointments with interested customers who are looking to remodel a room or just find the right piece of furniture.

Hansen’s store is dedicated to some of her favorite things, fashion and style, she said, but her husband, developer Craig Hansen, had some input as well. A shuffleboard court, couches and TVs were his contribution. “He told me, ‘We need stuff for men to do.’ He gets bored going shopping.”

The Village Boutique is the first of several projects that Hansen and her husband have planned for the East Village. She said the two are passionate and excited about further developing the area.

“When you do things like this, you encourage people to shop and buy and build,” she said. “You add growth to the community.”

As for the convertible, Hansen said she bought the car at an auction a year ago, before she even knew where she would put it. She just knew she could find something to do with the vehicle the moment she saw it.

The Village Boutique is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Interior design consultations can be made by appointment.
