Meredith Corp. reports drop, buys website

Meredith Corp.’s revenues for its fiscal second quarter, which ended Dec. 31, fell to $329 million compared from $366 million a year ago.

The company recorded $21 million less in political advertising revenues in the second quarter than in the year-ago period, which is expected in an off-election year. The company also announced the acquisition of Allrecipes.com.

Meredith bought the website for $175 million and is expected to close the deal later this quarter. Meredith said the addition of Allrecipes.com will double the scale of the Meredith Women’s Network in terms of both audience reach and revenues.
