The headquarters building for the Iowa Utilities Board and the Office of Consumer Advocate has been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification, making it the first state office building to achieve the highest international designation for energy efficiency. Designed by BNIM Architects, the building on the southeast corner of the state Capitol complex uses about one-third the energy of a typical office building. The project previously received a Top Ten Green Building Award from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and a Des Moines Environmental Impact Award. A public LEED dedication ceremony is being planned for early 2013.
