About 12 percent of Iowans have no health insurance, according to the latest Gallup poll, a percentage that puts the state among the 10 states with lowest percentage of uninsured residents. Nationwide, 17.2 percent of Americans lacked health insurance during the first half of 2012. States with larger percentages of low-income and Hispanic residents — two groups who are among the most likely to be uninsured — are generally more likely to have higher uninsured rates.
