American Airlines is re-engaging in negotiations with its pilots union today, CNNMoney.com reported.

The Allied Pilots Association told CNNMoney that American Airlines management contacted it to ask for talks on a new labor deal. American won bankruptcy court approval to throw out the pilots’ labor agreement and impose new working conditions on its pilots in a decision earlier this month.

Pilots have rejected a tentative agreement. The union’s executive council is set to meet today to discuss negotiating goals, but no date has been set to resume talks with American.

Since Sept. 16, more than half of the airline’s flights have been delayed, and more than 600 flights, or about 3 percent of its total schedule, have been canceled, according to FlightStats.com, an online flight tracking service.

Des Moines International Airport Executive Director Don Smithey said that Des Moines’ flights have not been affected by the labor negotiations.
