InFocus says it is making good on unpaid taxes
The attorney representing InFocus Partners and related companies in settling unpaid taxes with the Internal Revenue Service issued a statement today saying that the professional employer organization has paid its tax bill for 2012 and will pay all prior tax liabilities within 90 days.
InFocus is the business name of two companies, ICL Staffing LLC and ICL Staffing Inc., which along with their parent company and owner appear to owe the IRS nearly $6.7 million in taxes that should have been withheld for businesses for which it processes payroll and provides other human resources services.
The figure also includes a nearly $2 million penalty against entrepreneur John Vratsinas, who launched InFocus’ parent company in 2001 as an employee-leasing company.
The unpaid taxes came to light after Greater Des Moines businesses were contacted by the IRS and told they would have to pay the withholding taxes in the event the funds were not collected from InFocus.
Records show that InFocus and its related companies did not pay withholding taxes that dated back to 2006.
Attorney Christopher James said in the statement that funds have been secured to pay all prior tax liabilities within 90 days.
James, with the Davis Brown law firm, has said previously that the company disputes some of the amount listed in federal tax liens and that the company has been making payments on its tax liabilities.
InFocus clients should not be left with the impression that they will have to pay any of the tax liability.
“We … remain committed to fully paying all taxes due so that this is not an issue,” James said in an email.
