Foreclosures down in Iowa, across the country
Iowa foreclosure activity declined 0.1 percent to 2.1 percent of all outstanding home loans for the year ending Sept. 30, real estate analytics firm CoreLogic Inc. said today.
Lenders completed 3,380 foreclosures over the time period. Nationally, 3.3 percent of mortgages had been foreclosed, accounting for 763,589 properties that had been sold at sheriff’s auction and purchased by a third party or the original lender.
According to CoreLogic, there were 57,000 completed foreclosures last month in the United States, down from 59,000 in August and 83,000 in September 2011.
Prior to the decline in the housing market in 2007, completed foreclosures averaged 21,000 per month between 2000 and 2006.
