A change of plea hearing is scheduled for Feb. 15 in U.S. District Court in Des Moines for Russell Coco, who was charged along with developer Bob Knapp of fraud and other counts stemming from efforts to renovate the Equitable Building. Knapp is scheduled for a pre-trial conference Friday, leading to a jury trial Feb. 28 on charges of conspiring to defraud the federal government and two counts of violating the federal Clean Air Act. Knapp and Coco were indicted on Feb. 25, 2010, after an investigation into asbestos removal at the Equitable Building, 604 Locust St. According to the indictment, Knapp hired Coco to oversee demolition and renovation work at the building. In November 2010, Judge James Gritzner denied a motion to dismiss the charges against both men. Coco’s attorneys could not be reached for comment.
