Dow recovers but stock losses hold
Losses mounted on the U.S. stock exchange Tuesday as the Federal Reserve held to a loose monetary policy and concern over Japan’s nuclear power crisis threatened to scare off investors. The Dow Jones industrial average, however, which was down by more than 250 points to 11,736.74 at 9:08 a.m., had recovered to 11,860.64 at 2:07 p.m.
