The Associated General Contractors of America has released a new plan to stimulate demand for construction. The plan, “Building a Stronger Future, A New Blueprint for Economic Growth,” outlines measures to help spur private sector demand for construction, help tackle a growing backlog of infrastructure maintenance projects and reduce “needless red tape and regulations,” the trade association said in a release. The plan, which is intended to help overcome a downturn in the construction industry that has left more than 2.2 million workers unemployed, also identifies new tax credits to encourage retail and restaurant upgrades, improve the efficiency of commercial buildings and help contractors invest in more efficient construction equipment.
