Borders to close West Des Moines outlet
Borders Group Inc. will close its Greater Des Moines store this spring as the bookseller struggles to compete in the online marketplace and with larger rivals such as Barnes & Noble Inc. Ann Arbor, Mich.-based Borders, which last month said it would close about 30 percent of its more than 500 namesake stores as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization efforts, listed the outlet at 4100 University Ave. in West Des Moines on its bankruptcy case administration website at www.bordersreorganization.com. The store is expected to close in May.
