Anani Salon & Spa will be among the first retail tenants to locate in Plaza Shoppes at Prairie Trail and the first of six planned retail and office buildings on the site could soon be more than 66 percent occupied.

Abby Lytle, owner of Anani Salon, said she signed a five-year lease and plans to open her second Ankeny location this summer in a 3,000-square-foot space at 2505 S.W. White Birch Drive.

NAI Ruhl & Ruhl Commercial Co. brokers Marcus Pitts and Barb Hokel represented DRA Properties LC in leasing the space, which is located in a recently completed 16,000-sqaure-foot speculative building on the southern portion DRA’s more than 1,000-acre mixed-use development in Ankeny.

“We have commitments on approximately two-thirds of the building, with hopefully more announcements to come for tenants in the next couple of weeks,” Pitts said.

A commitment from Hy-Vee Inc. to construct a supermarket is fueling activity in Plaza Shoppes at Prairie Trail. In addition to a proposed Wendy’s restaurant, as well as a Mercy Clinics facility that is under construction on the site, the development is expected to include about 60,000 square feet of retail and office space.

In May, Iowa Health Physicians is also expected begin operating out of a 14,000-square-foot medical office building in Prairie Trail.
