Drake student selected for Freedom Ride
Drake University sophomore Ryan Price was the only Iowa college student selected to participate in the 2011 Student Freedom Ride. On May 6-10, the ride will retrace the 1961 violence-filled bus trip through the southern United States that historians consider a turning point of the civil rights movement. Price, who is majoring in rhetoric-communication studies and broadcast news, will join 39 other college students who were chosen out of nearly 1,000 applicants from 33 states.
