McDonald’s plans hiring spree as economic factors show positive signs
Fast food, fast jobs.
McDonald’s plans to hire 50,000 workers today – roughly four per restaurant – in a hiring blitz that spans all 50 states, CNNMoney.com reported.
The new openings are available across 14,000 restaurants and include crew and management positions, part-time and full-time jobs. The average starting wage is $8 an hour, a McDonald’s spokeswoman said.
Since the beginning of the year, food service jobs have been one of the fastest-growing segments of the job market, accounting for 63,500 jobs added, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Locally, Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds is scheduled to attend a McDonald’s National Hiring Day press conference at the McDonald’s restaurant at 3002 Forest Ave.
The hiring spree comes on the heels of a report from the U.S. Department of Labor that payrolls rose in 38 states in March, and the jobless rate fell in 34 states.
