Workers Memorial Day scheduled for April 28
Working families from across the state will gather at 11 a.m. Thursday in Des Moines to honor workers who were injured or killed on the job in Iowa in the past year. The annual Workers Memorial Day event, to be held near the Iowa Workforce Development Building at 1000 E. Grand Ave., will also call for stronger laws to protect workers’ health and safety. In 2010, 49 Iowans died on the job; on average, 16 U.S. workers lose their lives daily as a result of workplace injuries.
