More than 1,000 volunteers are expected to help clean up downtown today in today’s Earth Day Trash Bash, held by The Des Moines Park and Recreation Department, Metro Waste Authority, Operation Downtown and The Polk County Conservation Board.

The trash bash was rescheduled from last Friday due to inclement weather. Volunteers will be cleaning up trash on downtown streets as well as at the Principal Riverwalk, Gray’s Lake, Meredith Trail and city parks. The event runs from 1 to 5 p.m.
