The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) will offer free rides to bicyclists from May 16 through 20, in recognition of Bike to Work Week.

Bikers will need a coupon, available at one of four locations: Bike World; Barr Bicycle; Bike Country; and Rasmussen Bike Shop. DART will use the promotion as an opportunity to show off bike racks that were installed in 2005, which have generated more than 34,000 uses in the past 12 months, officials said.

The participating bicycle shops will have full-sized, functioning bike rack displays for cyclists to practice use. Bike World and Barr Bicycle will have the displays from today through May 12; Bike Country and Rasmussen Bike Shop will have the displays from May 13 through May 31.
