Des Moines is the best city for young professionals, according to Forbes magazine.

The magazine today released its “America’s Best Cities for Young Professionals” list, which ranked Des Moines at No. 1.

Forbes said the city has a higher concentration of big businesses (1 for every 568 residents) than any other city assessed. Forbes noted that a number of established companies in the area are expanding, and Des Moines is also attracting start-ups and companies relocating from the coasts.

The city’s 5.8 percent unemployment rate was the sixth-lowest of the 100 cities Forbes studied. This is the first time Des Moines has been ranked No. 1 on the list.
