Ankeny police warn of debit card fraud
The Ankeny Police Department is asking residents to immediately check their bank statements for the possibility of fraudulent charges related to the use of debit cards.
Police have recorded nearly 60 reported incidents, and financial institutions in the city are collectively reporting several hundred customers affected by the crime. Police said the use of the stolen information occurred over the past weekend.
In nearly all cases, the card number and personal identification number were intercepted during authorized purchases, and that information was used to access ATMs throughout Southern California.
