A new regional trails map highlighting 18 routes in 11 Central Iowa counties is now available to local residents and visitors, thanks in part to local bicycling enthusiasts who helped determine the best loops. The Cycle Central Iowa Map features 16 loops on paved roads and trails, and two loops on primarily gravel roads. Led by Carl Voss, chair of the Des Moines Bicycle Collective, in collaboration with Casey’s General Stores Inc., Hy-Vee Inc. and the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau, the initiative could help bring more tourists to the state. “All across the country communities are continuing to discover that tourism, and especially bicycle tourism, can be an important contribution to the local economy, civic engagement and quality of life,” said the League of American Bicyclists’ Steve Durrant of Portland, Ore.
