State to form STEM advisory council
Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds announced today the formation of a new education advisory council called the Governor’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Advisory Council.
The Iowa STEM Roadmap, produced by state experts, cited a lack of vision and commitment resulting in gaps and redundancies, inefficiency and inequity.
The new council will consist of members from a variety of sectors, including manufacturing, agribusiness, biotechnology, clean energy, engineering, health care and information technology. Others will represent educational institutions, and some will be appointed from the Legislature and state agencies.
Gov. Terry Branstad will hold a press conference this afternoon to announce more about the program.
