E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. received two U.S. Environmental Protection Agency registrations yesterday for corn seeds with an insecticide trait that will fight above-ground insects only.

DuPont’s Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc. subsidiary will sell Optimum AcreMax and Optimum AcreMax Xtra insect protection, which is the first U.S.-approved integrated product.

The genetically modified crops offer traits such as drought- and pest-resistance. Pioneer will conduct a commercial launch of the products for the 2012 growing season.
