Dice Holdings Inc., a leading provider of specialized career Web sites for professionals, has completed the purchase of substantially all the assets of AllHealthcareJobs.com, an online career site for health-care professionals. Launched in late 2006, AllhealthcareJobs.com allows hiring managers and recruiters to access 500 available job specialties across the industry. Dice, whose operations are based in Urbandale, said it paid $2.8 million and 205,000 shares of stock for the company, with an agreement to pay up to $1 million in additional cash if operating and financial goals are met over the next two years.

Kemin Health, a division of Des Moines-based Kemin Industries Inc., announced that it has received notices of allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office that “significantly strengthen” the company’s protection for a patented process to make its purified lutein product, FloraGLO Lutein. Derived from marigolds, purified lutein is beneficial to eye health and an antioxidant used extensively in supplements, foods and beverages and most recently, infant formula, throughout the world.

The U.S. Department of Labor today released a supplemental distribution of more than $450 million in Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) funding to states to provide career training, and employment and case management services to workers who lost their jobs due to outsourcing and foreign trade. Iowa will receive $9.13 million from that allotment. The increase is based on a higher TAA maximum amount authorized by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, along with funding authorized for case management services and administration. Des Moines Area Community College’s (DMACC) summer enrollment is up 10.58 percent, to a record 9,302, and the number of credit hours students are taking is up more than 13 percent to a record 54,354. Official enrollment figures will be released to the Iowa Department of Education this week. DMACC officials claim the rise in enrollment makes the college one of the fastest-growing two-year schools in the nation.

The Downtown Farmers Market has added a free Bike Valet service at the street level of the parking ramp at Second and Court avenues. The new service will allow cyclists to park their bikes in a secure area during the weekly event; it will be operated by a Des Moines Bicycle Collective staff person. Bike Valet also will offer a mini-workshop on tire changing and provide an air pump. The service will be available during Nitefall on the River, the Des Moines Arts Festival and the 80/35 music festival as well.
