Casey’s General Stores Inc. reported a second-quarter profit of $33.6 million, or 66 cents per share. That’s up from $27.3 million, or 54 cents per share a year ago. Revenue, however, fell to $1.15 billion from $1.39 billion last year. The company declared a quarterly dividend of 8.5 cents per share, payable Feb. 15 to shareholders of record on Feb. 1.

The bankruptcy court for the Northern District of Iowa issued an order on Dec. 4 confirming the reorganization plan of Pine Lake Corn Processors, an ethanol plant that had originally filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Dec. 4, 2008. It had suffered losses due to rapidly changing corn and ethanol prices and lost its operating line of credit. The plant went idle after filing for bankruptcy, but restarted production after working out arrangements with senior lenders and an ethanol marketing firm. The effective date for the plan will be Dec. 23.

The Federal Reserve has given Bank of America until summer to name businesses it can sell in order to raise $4 billion in common equity to help pay back Troubled Asset Relief Program funds it received as part of the bailout, American Banking News reported. According to the report some of the assets believed to be top candidates to divest are its U.S. Trust Corp. wealth management unit, the BlackRock money management division and its stake in Banco Itau, of Brazil. Wells Fargo Co. presented the United Way of Central Iowa with a $3.1 million check, the company announced Monday. Along with corporate matching contributions and gifts, the total raised for Wells Fargo’s Community Support and United Way Campaign in Des Moines is $4.3 million, a 14 percent increase from 2008.

Google Inc. began offering revamped search engine results that will now display up-to-the-second information from real-time Web products such as Twitter and Facebook. The service will first begin with Twitter, which licensed the data to Google two months ago, with plans to begin aggregating Facebook status updates from users in the future. Iowa Health-Des Moines has named Carma Herring executive director of the John Stoddard Cancer Center, effective Dec. 14. Herring currently is clinical director at Medical Oncology & Hematology Associates. She also was a clinical nurse specialist and nurse manager at Iowa Methodist’s oncology inpatient unit. Herring has a master’s degree in health administration from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill.
