West Des Moines retail center receives a face lift
The Governor’s Square retail center in West Des Moines will receive an estimated $12 million in upgrades and redevelopment.
The 96,898-square-foot strip mall is located at 2700 University Ave. Thomas English Retail Real Estate in Carmel, Ind., purchased the property in June for $5.8 million.
Thomas English, owner of the acquiring company, said $6.5 million will cover general improvements. He estimates that another $5 million to $6 million will be invested in the demolition and redevelopment of portions of the building.
English said he doesn’t think the continuing expansion of the Jordan Creek area will be a problem. “We believe the Valley West trade area continues to be a viable option despite the new retail at Jordan Creek,” he said. The upgrades will begin within the next 30 days, and redevelopment is 12 to 18 months away.
Complete details on the redevelopment and new tenants have not been released.
