An early-20th century building in Des Moines will get a splash of 21st century updating.

The historic duplex at 816 Des Moines St. will be renovated in hopes of attracting two professional firms.

Ron Barkey of Urban Elevation is planning on converting the building into 1,200 square feet of professional office space.

The plan is still under review at the Des Moines Permit and Development Center. Barkey said once everything has been approved by the city the renovations should be complete in two to four months.
