Another battle over a neighborhood grocery store is heating up as Dahl’s Foods is planning on replacing its flagship 48,000-square-foot store with a new 69,885-square-foot store at 3425 Ingersoll Ave.

In addition to the larger store, a 5,600-square-foot facility that will house a gas station, convenience store and coffee shop is also included with the conceptual plan. The lot is 5.5 acres.

The rezoning request is on the Des Moines Plan and Zoning Commission agenda for Thursday.

The North of Grand Neighborhood Association has already expressed concerns about the larger supermarket. Bryan Wicks, vice president of the association, said its No. 1 concern is the size of the store Dahl’s want to construct on the property. Wick said a 69,885-square-foot store would be too large for the lot.
