A new 136,000-square-foot distribution warehouse could be heading to Altoona pending approval from the city.

Greg Dickinson of Merchants Distribution Service in Des Moines said the company needs to relocate its warehouse to Altoona because the building it was leasing was sold as part of the Riverpoint West project.

According to the Polk County assessor, Point West LLC sold the warehouse at 1350 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway to Minneapolis-based Sherman Associates Inc. in August for $3.5 million.

The site plan shows 27 loading docks, 6,000 square feet of office space and rail access on the south side of the building. If approved, the warehouse will be located to the southeast of Iowa Cold Storage LLC, 612 Adventureland Drive N.E.

The site plan for the warehouse was approved by the Altoona Planning and Zoning Commission at its Dec. 18 meeting.
