The Grimes City Council announced it recently approved a site plan for an outdoor amphitheater that will be able to seat up to 100 people. It will be located on the east side of the new library building looking over the existing detention basin. A boardwalk will also be constructed over the detention basin. Both the library and Parks and Recreation Department will use this space for programming, including youth science and STEM education, story time, small live music events and fishing. Additional handicap parking will be added, and the site will be wheelchair accessible. Construction on the amphitheater will begin this summer. “It’s really exciting to think about all the different programming we can offer in this new space,” said library director Cheryl Heid in a prepared statement. “Our new building has enabled us to serve our community in so many new ways. This amphitheater will be the perfect piece to complete the puzzle.”
