Property tax symposium planned for May 14

139 wordsBanking and Finance, Real Estate and DevelopmentThe Taxpayers Association of Central Iowa’s annual symposium will be at 7:30 a.m. May 14 at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Gardens, 909 Robert D. Ray Drive. Abir Mandal, co-author of “Securing property tax relief in Iowa,” is the keynote speaker. Mandal is a senior policy analyst at the Washington, D.C.,-based Tax Foundation. Mandal will provide an historical perspective of property taxes, and analysis of the legislation moving through the Iowa Legislature and how it positions Iowa with respect to other states. Others who will be discussing the proposed Iowa property tax legislation include Marketa Oliver, Bondurant city administrator; Margaret Buckton, executive director of the Urban Education Network of Iowa; and Nate Ristow, president and CEO of the Iowa Taxpayers Association.
