The Breakfast Club, a restaurant with locations in Des Moines’ East Village, Ankeny and West Des Moines, will expand to Waukee after signing a lease for space in the Kettlestone Central development along Grand Prairie Parkway.

Caliber Realty, which is developing several projects in the area, announced the lease signing in a recent news release, saying that the Breakfast Club will be located in space in one of Caliber’s  retail shopping centers at 2285 Grand Prairie Parkway that are currently under construction.

The Breakfast Club, owned by Tom Baldwin, is expected to open in early 2026, Caliber officials said in the release.

Attempts to reach Baldwin for comment were unsuccessful.

Caliber Realty is under the umbrella of Caliber Co.

Brad Deets, Waukee’s city administrator, told the Business Record that the Breakfast Club announcement is the latest example of the anticipated growth in the area south of Westown Parkway.

Deets cited the nearby Vibrant Music Hall and the All Iowa Attack facility, which is also in Kettlestone Central, as anchors that the city knew would draw people from outside the metro, creating opportunities for further commercial growth.

“So I think we were pretty aggressive on those two projects … and I think we’re starting to see what we had anticipated happening, which is everything else kind of filling in around those,” he said.

Deets said Caliber is also developing three residential buildings in the 160-acre Kettlestone Central, which could open later this summer. The city also recently approved plans for an Iowa Orthopaedic facility in the development, he said.

The city is working with Caliber on a few other projects, including a commercial building for a dance studio, Deets said.

In the release, Caliber officials said Kettlestone Central is designed to create walkable commercial spaces for dining, wellness, retail and public amenities.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome the Breakfast Club to Kettlestone Central,” said Justin Washburn, a broker at Caliber Realty who helped secure the lease.
