Origin Homes, a subsidiary of Hubbell Realty Co., will break ground on five homes in Conrad next week, the company said in a news release. The homes are part of Origin’s Rural Housing Initiative, which includes five homes being built in Knoxvillle’s Veterans District and three homes in Jefferson.

The Conrad homes, priced between $290,000 and $330,000, will all be two- and three-bedroom ranches, some with finished basements, and two-car garages. The groundbreaking is scheduled for June 11 in the Catherine Farmer development in the Grundy County community of about 1,100 people. Conrad, Jefferson and Knoxville were selected as the second round of communities in the Rural Housing Initiative. Origin, created in 2022, has previously built homes in Knoxville, Manning and Gowrie as part of the initiative. Workforce housing tax credits from the Iowa Economic Development Authority will be used to offset the costs to homebuyers, the release stated.
