The Des Moines City Council has voted to issue a request for proposals on the Argonne Armory and to approve a 28E agreement with Polk County for the redevelopment of the county-owned parking lot at Fifth and Cherry streets downtown.

The council took action on both items at its meeting on Monday.

The city decided to issue an RFP for the armory after Des Moines Performing Arts decided not to pursue an agreement to purchase the building to expand its services and educational programming.

The 28E sharing agreement is necessary to define the roles the city and the county would play in converting the parking lot into a mixed-use development. The county board of supervisors is expected to vote on the agreement at its meeting scheduled for July 15.
