The Iowa Finance Authority has awarded more than $1.3 million in grants to 15 organizations working on homelessness prevention efforts through its new Iowa Homelessness Prevention Fund. In Central Iowa, Primary Health Care received an $80,600 grant. According to a news release, the program builds on the Rapid Rehousing Project Pilot Program by providing flexible support such as short-term financial assistance, landlord mediation, housing navigation and case management to help individuals and families remain housed. Unlike federal programs, the fund broadens eligibility to include those who are doubled-up or “couch-surfing,” a status often seen among youth and in rural areas, the release. The $1.335 million allocation, approved by the IFA board and distributed to agencies from the earlier pilot program, comes from the agency’s fiscal year 2026 Emergency and Innovative Housing Fund.
