Mercy, Heart Center earn three-star rating
Mercy Medical Center-Des Moines and Iowa Heart Center have earned the highest category of quality rating available from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons for patient care and outcomes in isolated coronary artery bypass grafting procedures. The three-star rating is calculated using a combination of measures for specific procedures. Only 6.5 of participants in an related database program received the three-star rating for isolated procedures. “Participation in the database and public reporting demonstrates a commitment to quality improvement in health care delivery and helps provide patients and their families with meaningful information to help them make informed decisions about health care,” said David M. Shahian, a doctor and chair of the STS Council on Quality, Research and Patient Safety.
