After nearly 25 years leading the Iowa Sports Foundation as its board chairman, Doug Reichardt is passing on that baton.

The retired Holmes Murphy chairman and CEO was a founding board member of Iowa Sports Foundation when it was formed in 1986, and he was elected its chairman in 1993. He helped lead a strategic expansion of the foundation from its origins as a summer games festival to year-round programming that serves all ages and stages of fitness.

The foundation’s programs now include the Iowa Games, Live Healthy Iowa, Adaptive Sports Iowa and the Iowa Senior Games.

“There’s simply no quantifying the tremendous impact Doug has had on the Iowa Sports Foundation over two and a half decades of service,” said Chris Verlengia, sponsorship manager with Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, who succeeds Reichardt as board chairman. “His visionary leadership has positioned the organization for sustained growth in activating communities in all 99 counties toward improved health and well-being. We’re excited to receive the handoff and build on the legacy of his many contributions.”
