Two years after introducing its first mobile food pantry, the Partnership for a Hunger-Free Polk County and DMARC will add two new mobile pantries to its fleet. Variety — the Children’s Charity and a private donor provided funds for the truck and trailers and to retrofit both mobile food pantries, a contribution valued at $150,000. Hunger-Free Polk County will cover the remaining costs of operation, while DMARC will continue to operate the mobile food pantries. “We’re proud to join Hunger-Free with our donation and help Polk County residents who struggle to feed themselves and their families,” said Sheri McMichaels, CEO of Variety Iowa. “These new mobile pantries will especially help children as we look for new ways to partner with schools and summer meal sites.” Since 2016, Hunger Free’s first mobile food pantry has visited 14 locations throughout Polk County and serves more than 400 people per month.
