NOTEBOOK – One Good Read: Want a show? Get in line.
Music in the Midwest just can’t seem to win. In the fight against ticket bots, Nine Inch Nails (a band I will probably not buy tickets for) will skip the online marketplace and offer tickets in-person at each venue for their upcoming “Cold and Black and Infinite” tour, reports Engadget. “UGH,” tweets everyone living more than 40 minutes away from Big Music Cities, with real jobs and real vacation limitations. Is living in major cities the only way we can combat scam ticket prices online? I know there’s the budding music venue controversy swelling in Des Moines, and I’m not going to step into it except to say this: When Gaslight Anthem announced a reunion tour after three years of nothing, I had the option of purchasing tickets to Toronto, Canada; Cologne, Germany; Manchester, U.K.; Tillburg, Netherlands; or Chicago. I bought two Chicago tickets for $50 each (two tickets are now retailing for $297-ish on Ticketmaster). Reunion tours like Gaslight Anthem aren’t going to come to Des Moines. Can’t we do better for out-of-town customers?
