Halloween by the business numbers

So many of us look at Halloween on Wednesday as a simple Snickers or Milky Way moment, never pausing to consider there are real business implications behind this scary (Business Record Publisher Chris Conetzkey doesn’t like clowns) observance.

Our friends at the U.S. Census Bureau report that 40,411 Americans work for manufacturers of chocolate or cocoa products.

There are 3,430 candy and nut stores (based on 2016 sweetness), and 991 places that sell formal wear and costumes.

And it’s a good thing, because there are an estimated 41.1 million potential trick-or-treaters between the ages of 5 and 14 out there walking among the potential 120 million housing units that could be offering candy.
