203 wordsArts and Culture, Business Record Insider, The Insider NotebookThe Business Record touched on benefits young professionals are seeking in jobs today in a recent issue. Gallagher’s Jason Jodlowski offered some help in a guest column and our Forty Under 40 Class of 2018 honorees also weighed in with advice. No one offered the idea of pet-ternity leave. But here’s an article from the New York Times about a company in our northern neighbor offering the option to work from home during the first few stressful weeks of owning a pet. The article reads: “A Minneapolis marketing company recently made tweaks to its employee benefits this summer, ranging from conventional to unusual. It gave workers a larger commuter stipend, as well as a reason to avoid the office altogether: ‘fur-ternity leave,’ or the ability to work from home for a week to welcome new dogs or cats. ‘This is kind of a no-brainer,’ said Allison McMenimen, a vice president at the company, who helped devise the new policy. ‘The idea of offering benefits that just help keep employees at the office, that’s over.’” I’m certainly well aware of telecommuting and how many Greater Des Moines employers offer that benefit. This perk is not one we’ve heard of (but we’d love to).
