AIA’s Schwengels to retire after 25 years
Suzanne Schwengels, who has led the staff of the Iowa chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) for 25 years, has announced her retirement. Schwengels has served in numerous roles in the organization and in 1997 was elected president of Council of Architectural Component Executives. She also served on the AIA’s national board of directors. In 1996, both the local and national organizations designated Schwengels as an AIA Honorary Member. Under her leadership, the budget of AIA Iowa has more than doubled and total membership has grown by 78 percent, according to a release.
