American Equity reports slight third quarter decrease
American Equity Investment Life Holding Co. reported third-quarter operating income of $27.6 million, or 45 cents per share, a 2 percent decrease from the third quarter of 2009.
Net income for the third quarter was $20.5 million, or 33 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $3 million for the same period in 2009.
American Equity’s annuity sales increased 12 percent to $3.1 billion for the first nine months of 2010, and sales of new annuities reached record levels in the third quarter. Investment assets have increased 15 percent this year.
