AmeriCorps program will maintain school gardens during summer
This summer, the Iowa Community Health AmeriCorps Program will work with the Des Moines Public Schools to connect children with healthy, local foods through the Summer Food Service Program and school gardens. The program is supported by the American Heart Association of Iowa, the American Cancer Society, the Mid-Iowa Health Foundation and United Way of Central Iowa. Specific projects include community outreach; developing and delivering educational programming; planting, harvesting and assisting with the maintenance and upkeep of the gardens; and creating plans to help sustain the gardens in the future.
