Ankeny and Urbandale among the best for ‘small-city living’
Financial services website WalletHub has a habit of looking for the best and worst in just about everything, and its latest adventure has been an evaluation of what it calls “small-city living.” WalletHub identified 1,268 cities with populations of between 25,000 and 100,000 people, came up with a list of the 30 best small cities, and ranked the other 1,238 for good measure. Ankeny ranked No. 9, scoring points for housing costs, the percentage of residents with health insurance and crime rate. Urbandale was No. 12, based on housing costs, the rate of homeownership and the percentage of residents living in poverty. West Des Moines ranked 40th and Ames ranked 79th.
