John Arends, president and CEO of Arends Inc., was chosen as the 2011 winner of Schwartz Award, Iowa State University’s highest honor for contributions in journalism and mass communication. The Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication voted earlier this month to give Arends the award, which will be presented during homecoming activities on Oct. 21, in Hamilton Hall on Iowa State’s campus in Ames. A native of La Grange, Ill., Arends earned a journalism degree at Iowa State in 1977.
