Bank of America on Tuesday announced more than $330,000 in grants to 14 Iowa nonprofits to help drive economic opportunity for individuals and families. The grants made by the Bank of America Charitable Foundation will support programs focused on affordable housing and workforce development. One of the organizations receiving a grant is Oakridge Neighborhood, a Des Moines housing and human services nonprofit. In 2019, Oakridge was the first Bank of America Neighborhood Champion, receiving $50,000 and leadership seminars. Another Des Moines-based recipient is Urban Dreams, which has been a host organization for Bank of America’s Student Leaders program since it was launched in Des Moines four years ago. Urban Dreams was the 2021 Bank of America Neighborhood Champion, helping more than 1,750 individuals with chemical dependency issues and bringing together over 15,000 families and community members annually during monthly community engagement events. Other Iowa organizations receiving grants include Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa, By Degrees Foundation, Easter Seals, Food Bank of Iowa, Solidarity Microfinance, Jewels Academy, Junior Achievement, Tanager Place, Waypoint Services, Humility Homes & Services, River Bend Foodbank, and Family Resources. These grants build on the $2.2 million Bank of America provided to organizations in Iowa since 2018.
