Bankers group-sponsored steer named 2025 state fair grand champion

173 wordsAll Latest News, Arts and CultureJimmy, a steer raised by Brenna Thie of Mediapolis and sponsored by the Iowa Bankers Association, was selected as the grand champion of the Iowa State Fair’s 2025 Governor’s Charity Steer Show. The steer was shown by Jeff Angelo, the host of WHO-AM radio’s Morning Show program. The Governor’s Charity Steer Show began in 1983 as a way to highlight the accomplishments of young producers by having Iowa celebrities show their steers at the fair. It was the third time a steer shown by Angelo has won the contest. It also was the second straight year a steer sponsored by the bankers association has been named grand champion. All show proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Iowa, which provide housing facilities for family members of seriously ill children being treated in local hospitals. This year’s show raised a record $569,000.
