Italian-based Barilla Group has completed the $65 million expansion of its Ames pasta plant, a project that will add 41 employees over the next two years to its current workforce of 214, according to a release. The Ames facility was Barilla’s first U.S. pasta manufacturing plant when it opened in 1998 in Ames. The company has since added a factory in Avon, N.Y. In Ames, Barilla has completed two expansions. In 2015 two gluten-free pasta lines were added at a cost of $27 million. The recent project resulted in two more production lines, a rail-yard expansion and six new wheat storage silos.
