The city of Des Moines has authorized several projects for bids, including the first phase of the realignment of High Street to accommodate construction of the new headquarters of Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa. That phase includes the removal and replacement of pavement and sidewalks, and the relocation of hydrants and traffic signals. The estimated cost is $680,000, and a preletting conference will be held at 9 a.m. on July 8 at Snyder & Associates Inc., 501 S.W. Oralabor Road, Ankeny.

Four planned street resurfacing projects total an estimated $4.6 million; two sidewalk projects are projected at a total of $228,000; and a project that will improve the traffic signals and pavement markings at several school crossings is expected to cost $112,000.
